Heaven Burns Red Team Building Guide: Best Comps & Strategies for Every Element!

Welcome to the Heaven Burns Red Team Composition and Team-Building Guide!

This guide will help you build effective teams, covering elements, attack styles, and character roles essential for Heaven Burns Red. With its unique combat system, understanding team composition is key to maximizing damage and progressing efficiently.

Game Elements and Attack Styles

Heaven Burns Red introduces five elements—Fire, Ice, Thunder, Light, and Dark—and three distinct attack styles: Slash, Pierce, and Crush.

Each character has multiple skills, which may vary in rarity and element type. This allows you to equip characters with different skill "memorias" like A-rank, S-rank, and EX skills. Some skills can even combine an element and an attack style, such as a "Slash Dark" skill that deals both Slash and Dark damage.

Each enemy has specific vulnerabilities to certain elements and attack styles. Exploiting these vulnerabilities fills the Overdrive Gauge faster, granting additional SP and extra turns.

Attacking with a resisted element or style, however, will lower damage output and won’t contribute to Overdrive. Effective team-building, therefore, requires carefully selecting characters with the right elemental affinities and weapon types.

Team Setup and Roles

Each team comprises six characters: three on the frontline and three in rthe back. You can swap between them during battle to adapt to the fight. Characters fall into six core classes:

  • Attackers – Deal high HP damage, especially effective after an enemy’s DP (Defense Points) is broken.
  • Buffers – Boost your team’s stats; buffs can stack up to 2 times for the same buff type, so layering buffs before attacking can maximize your damage output.
  • Healers –  maintain your team’s survivability.
  • Debuffers – Reduce enemy resistance or inflict crowd control effects like stun, etc..
  • Breakers – Specialize in breaking enemy shields and depleting DP.
  • Blasters – Amplify damage after a Break, making them ideal for boss fights.
  • Defenders – Tank incoming damage and taunt enemies.
  • Admirals – Unique characters with skills that don’t fall under other classes, providing specialized support.

Early Game Team-Building Tips

In the early game, you don’t need a mono-element team; a variety of attack styles is more helpful. New players can easily progress through early and mid-game content with a mix of elements.

Pro Tip: S-rank memorias are often highly effective and can even outperform SS-rank variations, so don’t hesitate to use them when they suit your needs.

For end-game content, however, you’ll need to build mono-element teams for each element. Strategically, building teams around each element will help you tackle tougher content as you progress. Disclaimer:
These team setups are just for reference, and there are countless possible team compositions! The teams mentioned here focus on being easy to build and versatile across multiple elements. Feel free to replace DPS characters with whatever carry units you have available, as making specific recommendations for every variation would make this guide quite lengthy. Experiment with different combinations and the examples provided to find what works best for you.{alertWarning}

This team recommendation is flexible and based on the results of your reroll. Refer to our reroll guide for specific character suggestions. Here are some general tips for setting up your F2P early game team:

  • Core Members: Use the strongest characters you obtained from rerolling as your main DPS and supports with their SS memorias.
  • Swap Options: Replace Oshima Minosato with a higher-damage DPS if you pull one. Kayamori Tsukiuta is a great carry early on, though you may want to replace her later as you gather more better options.

For boss fights, consider switching a Breaker with a Blaster to maximize damage after breaking the boss’s DP. For example, Asakura Karen can be a powerful choice as a Blaster.
